ARTISTIC MANIFESTATIONS WITH VIDEO IN THE CONTEXT OF THE VIDEOBRASIL FESTIVAL (1983-2001)

ABSTRACT

In this study we analyze the trajectory of the Videobrasil Festival from a perspective that focalizes its organization and the development of the Electronic Arts, specially the video, that has evolved from a peripheral segment to the central focus of the festival in the 1990s. Our approach concentrates on the period between 1983, year of its first edition, and 2001, when it consolidates as an event around that kind of artistic production. Aiming to achieve a better understand of this transformation we have organized a historical reflection in three periods: First (1983-1985), Second (1986-1990), and Third Stage (1992-2001). Each one of them corresponds to changes in several aspects of Videobrasil that we intend to discuss.
