ABSTRACT
The paper aims to characterize the relation between the image and the public, asking why spectators love images. It begins with the concept of illusion, as a mechanism which depends of its acceptance by individuals. It explores the image as an entity where the particular desires of individuals takes a visible form and defines the image as "image" and "picture". The paper uses examples brought up from literature, theatre, visual arts and cinema.
