This paper aims to take stock of the work produced in the area of environmental studies, from the perspective of the Social Sciences. This means that, in the first place, the social movements trajectories are analyzed and the main emergent environmental issues, from the viewpoint of the rural social actors, are identified. In the second place, the privileged topics that researchers have investigated are pointed out, followed by a discussion of the main analytical perspectives they have chosen.
