Between tradition and modernity: negotiations of rights in two conservation units of the brazilian amazonian area

In the present paper we analyse the Jaú Nacional Park and the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve, in which groups have claimed ethnic specific rights. We reflect about how the category of traditional people has been used to classify residents inside and around these natural protected areas, and whether or not this use has converged to the conservationists' proposals.
