Abstract: Accreditation processes in higher education have been presented a practice in several countries that seek to evaluate the quality of diverse services that are offered at an institution of higher education. This article aims to analyze the context of Brazilian higher education with regard to the development of assessments supported by the National Evaluation System of Higher Education (SINAES) and relations with the development of accreditation processes. Were made semistructured interviews with actors from some countries that is developing the system of accreditation and with actors from Brazil who are involved with the evaluation processes, including a literature review about the topic researched.
