Contribution to a macromycete survey of the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina in Brazil

Abstracts

Collections of macromycetes made in seven municipalities in southern Brazil, viz. six in Rio Grande do Sul and one in Santa Catarina, are listed. They belonged to the Myxomycota (6 spp.), Ascomycota (54 spp.) and Basidiomycota (189 spp.). First records for Brazil could be Battarrea phalloides, Amanita rubescens, Boletus edulis and Mycena filopes, the last three found under exotic Pinus.

INTRODUCTION

The author has made mycological collections in southern Brazil since 1990. Collecting was done as a pastime, at random, without a definite plan. Collecting localities are given in Table 1. The majority of collections come from the author's rural property, in Nova Petrópolis, at 565 m a.s.l. Most localities are in north-eastern Rio Grande do Sul, but Rolante is in eastern Rio Grande do Sul, and Piçarras is in the state of Santa Catarina.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Collections were photographed and macroscopically described (in German, with colour notations following Küppers' 1978 codes) from materials still fresh and alive. Exsiccates of most collections were sent to the mycologist André A. R. de Meijer, who studied and determined only those that he considered of sufficient size and sufficiently well annotated (Table 2). Other specialists identified a few collections as indicated. Table 2 also includes a few collections received by the author from other persons, also determined by de Meijer. Exsiccates, descriptions and photo negatives of the collections listed are preserved in MBM (Museu Botânico Municipal, Curitiba, State of Paraná, Brazil). For photography a camera Yashica Fx-3 super 2000 was used, with lens Sigma 28.1-90 for macrophotography without usage of flash.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Table 2 shows the names of species identified with relative certainty. Species only identified to genus level are not included, unless they represent taxa little known or possibly new for southern Brazil (compare Putzke 1994 for Agaricales).

The majority of collections listed in Table 2 are from secondary native forest. Most of the others are from pure or mixed stands of exotic Acacia decurrens, Pinus spp. and Eucalyptus spp., or are from the author's home garden of ornamental exotic and food plants. Table 3 shows how the collections of Table 2 are distributed over substrate and organism types.
