The restoration of ecosystems after impacts is one of the growing scientific and technological fields in Applied Ecology and Conservation. Restoration offers new economic opportunities, not only to minimise impacts, but to implement new regional perspectives in land development and sustainable exploitation. The restoration of biodiversity is one of these technical and scientific activities that are important for ecosystem recovery. Besides promoting functional and process restoration, it improves ecosystem services that are fundamental for economic development with a sustainable perspective. Tourism, recreation and education are among the main activities that are stimulated by the recovery of ecosystems.
In order to restore biodiversity, a deep knowledge of its role, its taxonomy, species distribution and function is needed!
