The Ethnomodeling in the Songs of Repente of the Cariri Cearense

Abstract

Education is a process of transmitting culture. Considering the need to define what will be prioritized in the list of knowledge and practices disseminated in the school environment, in some situations, this selectivity ends up excluding and marginalizing important parts of the culture of sociocultural groups. In this context, Ethnomodeling stands as one of the trends that studies these relationships between academic mathematics and ethnomathematics knowledge and might be a possible path for the school context. Based on the need to rescue and value cultural diversity in the context of the classroom, this research aims to identify (ethno)mathematical knowledge associated with the culture of repentista singers from Ceará, in the light of Ethnomodeling. The research was carried out in the municipality of Abaiara-CE and had as subjects two singers who live in the municipality. As an ethnographic and descriptive study, this research used the semi-structured interview as a data collection instrument and the content analysis model to analyze them. Under the contribution of Ethnomodeling, the identified ethnomodels are related to the mathematical content of sequences, which is present in the different modalities of singing suddenly as in the sextilla and in the motes in seven and ten. Therefore, we can see that there is an alternative to the knowledge unveiled from this cultural practice of repente as a way of insertion into the educational context, which would be a possibility to open spaces for cultural diversity.
