Teachers' Perceptions on the Use of Mathematical Modeling in the Classroom

The research reported in this paper aims to analyze and interpret the responses of teachers who completed a Master's degree in Teaching Mathematics and whose theses focused on mathematical modeling. To understand how these teachers perceived their performance, data were collected through a questionnaire and analysis of their theses, which include testimonies of their students. From the interviews with the teachers, we highlight three major themes: possibilities of change in teaching practice, difficulties in the teaching practice with Mathematical Modeling, and repercussions for teacher and student learning. The survey results pointed to possibilities of changes in teaching practice, but some obstacles still need to be overcome for these changes to take place.
