Abstract
Generally, the student's performance in the teaching and learning process is influenced by multiple factors, one of which is strictly related to the teacher's ability to transmit effectively the contents to eir students. Therefore, the combined effect of these factors ends up affecting the scope of the entire process and the goals previously defined for achieving good results. It is in this aspect that the present work seeks to analyze the performance of the teachers on the subject of Mathematics and Portuguese of the second cycle of the General Secondary School of Namacurra – Headquarters, Zambézia, in Mozambique, through the evaluation made by their students. In order to carry out the research the stratification sampling method was used taking the grade, group, and stream as extracts with which a representative sample with 116 students was guaranteed. The results allowed us to conclude that, in general, students evaluate their teachers positively, and Portuguese teachers are given better scores than those of Mathematics, although there is less unanimity among students in their assessment of this group. The didactic-scientific aspects are the ones which most contributed to the overall assessment of students, and the teachers’ punctuality and attendance in both subjects is considered the aspect to be improved. From the students’ perspective, both Mathematics and Portuguese teachers’ accessibility and courtesy are differentiating aspects in the process of evaluating their pedagogical performance.
