Experimentos de cavalos para citros. III

Six rootstock experiments were planted at the Tietê Experiment Station in 1949. The scion varieties: Eureka lemon, Baianinha (Navel) orange, Pêra orange, Hamlin orange, Maracanã orange and Mexerica mandarin were budded on: sour orange, caipira and pêra sweet oranges, Rangpur lime, Brazilian and Florida rough lemons, cravo and Cleopatra tangerines, red shaddock, trifoliate orange, sweet lime and Sampson tangelo. The planting was made in a silt-loam shallow soil. The tops of Baianinha, Hamlin and Maracanã oranges induced exocortis symptoms on trifoliate orange and Rangpur lime rootstocks. The Pêra orange top on Florida rough lemon and trifoliate orange showed bud-union-ring symptoms. A complete disharmony at the point of union of the Eureka lemon-trifoliate was observed, and the trees died after 5 years. The trunk diameter in 1949, 1954 and 1958; the height and circumference of the trees in 1958; the annual yield since 1951 up to 1959 are here reported. The statistical analysis of the yield data was made grouped in two periods (1951-54 and 1955-58) and also for the 8-year period. In the first period the Brazilian rough lemon rootstock gave the biggest tree sizes and yields with all top varieties, but the caipira orange rootstock exceeded it in the last years. The trigoliate orange gave the smallest trees and yields. With some scion varieties the Rangpur lime had an outstanding position as to productiveness. The Florida rough lemon and tangerines had a medium position among the rootstocks tried. These esperimerits will be maintained under observation and additional data will be reported in future publications.
