SUMMARY

Pleomorphic bodies, the diameter of which ranges from 0.1 to 1 μ, were consistently found in sieve tubes of tomato leaves, infected with Brazilian big bud. The general morphology of these structures resembles that of mycoplasma-like bodies found associated with several plant diseases, previously considered of viral etiology.

Since mycoplasma-like bodies have been found associated with European stolbur disease, the finding of similar structures in Brazilian big bud-infected plants is indicative that they are closely related.
