The root system of the peanut plant

SUMMARY

The root system of peanut plants growing on a type of red soil ("terra-roxa-misturada") at the E. E. "Theodureto de Camargo" was studied.

It was verified that peanut roots reached as deep aa 1.30 m in this type of soil, and that 60 per cent of the roots were distributed in the upper 30 cm layer. Varistal differences in the root system were noticed, specially in the amount of roots.
