Preliminary fertilizer trials with upland rice: II - cultivar 'pratão'

Upland rice is one of the principal cultures in the State of São Paulo. However, there is no doubt that the productivity of this crop is low. Among the problems that are responsible for this low productivity is the lack or deficient use of fertilizers. The N, P, K and microelements were then considered. The present paper shows the results of five fertilizer experiments with upland rice, in which the cultivar 'Pratão' was used. The scheme was a factorial 3x3x3 with an extra treatment for microelements and the experiments were installed on Podzolized Soils on Calcareous Sendstone Lins variation. Through chemical analysis of a great number of soils, the places were chosen. For this purpose special consideration was given to the e.mg PO4-³ per 100 f of soil content. Nitrogen only affected the production in one place, in which the plant residues of corn were incorporated in the soil. Under 0.08 e.mg PO4-5 per 100 g of soil, phosphorus affected the production of rice. The use of 60 kg/ha of P2O5 was sufficient for the higher yields. The use of potassium was efficient in only one place. No beneficial effect was noted with the use of microelements.
