Sôbre um tropismo manifestado por adultos de Lasioderma serricorne F., quando mantidos sexualmente isolados
An observed tropism of adults of Lasioderma serricorne F., when sexually isolated
Luiz O. T. Mendes; Romeu de Tella
SUMMARY
During the course of studies on the longevity of sexually isolated adults of Lasioderma serricorne F., observations were made concerning the relative position occupied by the insects in the vials : a) on the medium (flour); b) on the stoppercloth. Males and females showed a strong tropism, on the stopper-cloth, when maintained under 30°C, 85% of relative humidity, in the dark.
The observed tropism is stronger in the females than in the males. Because L. serricorne as an adult does not feed, and the females are longer-lived than the males (1), it seems that the intensity of tropic reaction is related to adult senescence.
