Abstract
Introduction The work environment in health care includes physical space, technologies, equipment, materials, working conditions, humans and interpersonal relationships.
Objective To understand the perception of health professionals about the work environment in delivery room and its interface with the humanization of care.
Methods This exploratory, descriptive, qualitative research was conducted in a public maternity in Fortaleza, Ceará, between November and December 2012. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed according to Bardin’s technique of content analysis.
Results The “Working conditions in the delivery room” revealed favorable (teamwork integration, professional competence and philosophy of the institution) and inadequate work conditions (inadequate physical infrastructure, lack of materials and equipment maintenance).
Conclusion It is necessary a service reorganization to improve working conditions, the quality of care for women during childbirth and the well-being of workers.
