VIOLENCE AND NONVIOLENCE: IMAGES AND REPRESENTATIONS OF HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH

ABSTRACT

This research aims to present how young students comprehend violent and non-violent episodes by using pictures taken by said students, The main goal of this study was chosen to be the application of the pictures as a source of transformation, as well as a tool for showing how the students think, feel, and evaluate the proposed theme. The pictures can also be employed to allow dialog and critical thinking, Sixteen collaborators took part in the study. The methods of choice where oral history and photovoice; focal group, interviews, and questionnaires. For the analysis, it was used Barthes’ method. The concept of photographic transcriation, elaborated by the author of this paper, is presented, being conceived as a way for highlighting a reinvention, not a mere succession of images. To reach this goal, the narrative analysis of the pictures are also presented, which were produced during the focal group sections by the young students who collaborated in the transcriation process.
