Secrets of the heart: school as a space for the sensitive look

This paper describes an experiment to build a space for affect within school. Through artistic activities, such space permits to deal with losses and share secrets, dreams, and desires. This locus thus allows the construction of a sensible look on each one's story and on collective memories. The dynamics within our proposal expresses a dimension of the current view on art education as an acting space combining objective and subjective aspects of our work with students. This interplay in the art classes focused here allowed to weave participants' stories into the threads of the aesthetic experience, interlacing references of African and Native cultures with the tradition of local embroiderers, who weave their stories with threads and cloths. The composition of all these elements created a shelter for individualities, for each one's subjectivity, for our hidden treasures, in our school.
