ABSTRACT:
The educational reality of young children living in rural areas of Brazil, who are old enough to attend early childhood education, is a challenge to Brazilian education policy. Recent knowledge production indicates that their access to early childhood education is unequal and insufficient when compared to the access that children of the same age group and who live in urban areas have to this stage of basic education. The article throws light on the offer of early childhood education in the state of Paraíba, Brazil, with emphasis on the rural context.
