Carnival parade and cultural networks of the urban residents of Rio de Janeiro

In this article, with the aim of following the dynamics of the socio-communicative stylization which fits into the definition of the entertainment- esthetic genre of the Rio de Janeiro Carnival Parade, the guiding principle of the argument developed is the point of view of the carnival intellectual-artist. This means the development of the functional differentiation regarding job promotion and how this affects their esthetic leadership in the samba school parades. We will analyze the period from the 1950s to the 1980s, focusing on one hand on the carnival character as a modernist intellectual committed to a set of modernizing ideas, in the position of cultural legislator; on the other hand, focusing on the role of the specialist in the conception and production of visual images in the concert of the carnival super-spectacle.
