FIRST INTERNATIONAL LATIN-AMERICAN CONFERENCE ON POWDER TECHNOLOGY, Águas de Lindóia, São Paulo, Brazil, November 10 to 12, 1997.
The First International Latin-American Conference on Powder Technology was held at Águas de Lindoia, São Paulo State, Brazil. The Conference was organized by the Brazilian Ceramic Society, Sinterconsult, MPIF and IPEN. The organizing committee consisted of Lucio Salgado and Francisco Ambrozio Filho from IPEN and Panos Tsakiropoulos of the University of Surrey, UK. The Conference was generously sponsored by Belgo Brasileira, Cofap, Combustol - Metalpó, Metal Leve Sinterizados, Hoeganaes, Osterwalder, CCDM, Gasbarre Products, White Martins, the Powder Processing Centre - CPP, Brassinter, Cincinnati Incorporated, Osprey Metals and Team Pennsylvania. The financial support from FAPESP, CNPq and FINEP is deeply acknowledged. This was an extremely successful conference that brought together 204 delegates from Brazil, Chile, Venezuela, USA, UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Austria, Colombia, Switzerland and Argentina. The oral presentations and poster sessions on metallic, ceramic, composite and biomaterials were well attended, followed by profitable discussions. Key review-type papers were given by experts in the field, while a unique feature on the oral sessions was technical lectures presented by Osprey Metals, MPIF, White Martins, Cincinnati, Osterwalder and EPMA. A series of open meetings took place on general PM topics and economic integration on the Mercosul. A range of processing technologies was covered from the production of powders using atomization techniques, spray forming, mechanical alloying, plasma sintering and powder injection molding. Research managers, academic researchers in Universities and Institutes as well as research students attended the conference. The well-prepared program and the excellent overall facilities available at the conference allowed for many opportunities for in depth discussion and consultations. It is hoped to continue this series of International Latin-American Conferences on Powder Technology and the second conference is provisionally planned for November 1999.
