The contribution of the journal Cadernos Gestão Pública e Cidadania in the process of institutionalization of the field of public administration in Brazil

Abstract

Cadernos Gestão Pública e Cidadania was created in 1997 by the Public Management and Citizenship Program of Fundação Getulio Vargas in São Paulo in partnership with the Ford Foundation, with the purpose of identifying, disseminating and giving awards to innovative initiatives from local governments in Brazil. Initially, Cadernos’ main objective was to contribute to the dissemination of the local experiences as well as analysis of these innovations. This article analyzes the main transformations that have occurred since the beginning of Cadernos Gestão Pública e Cidadania until its effective transformation into a national academic periodical. These transformations, summarized here, cover the formal aspects, such as means of dissemination, format and periodicity, etc., through the adjustments recommended by CAPES and ANPAD, until the expansion of its objectives, in order to deepen the discussion on public administration and public policies in Brazil. The strategic objectives of the journal are presented, as well as its connection with the “Campo de Públicas” and its transition to the RAE Publications system.
