Enterprisation and organizational control: a study of soccer clubs of Santa Catarina

Soccer is one of the main sports practised in Brazil having great relation with the identity of the Brazilian people. Its spreading in the country, initiated in 1894 next to the elite, did not stop of if expanding and reaches today all the social classes. The soccer currently is managed by clubs that, in the majority, are non-profit organizations, but they seem to pass for significant transformations in a process of marchandisation of the sport. The present work searchs to analyze how much clubs that had been part of the A1 series (first division) of the soccer championship of 2000 until 2004 in the state of Santa Catarina start to use enterprise mechanisms in its action and the transformations that such use implies for the organizacional control. As bedding of the study, it is used theory developed for Andreu Solè (2004) on enterprisation and for the organizacional control, amongst other authors, the model of Carvalho (1998). A process of accented enterprisation in a club (Figueirense) and medium in others four was perceived (Joinville, Avaí, Chapecoense and Criciúma). Two of the analyzed clubs seem to offer bigger resistance to the enterprisation process.
