ABSTRACT
The present work describes the volume per hectare, frequency and diameter distribution and quality of the wood, in ‘Campo de Instrução do Exército de Santa Maria’ (Army Instruction Field, in Portuguese), in the locality of Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul state. Forty-eight species were found. The species Nectandra megapotamica, Patagonula americana and Ficus luschnathiana showed the highest volumes. The distribution of frequency for diameter class was adjusted by Meyer’s function, with a regulating constant (q) of 0,7238, normal for this type of forest. The average quality of the wood was considered good. The volume with bark was 148,6 m3/ha, corresponding to a basal area of 28,8 m2/ha.
