This paper analyzes the Brazilian production of scientific articles in the area of information science, consisting of 126 articles from 1972 to 2006 which are part of Brazilian Base on Information for Business. It presents characteristics of production concerning aspects of focus, trends of content, authorship and periodicity of publications, standardizing 342 describing terms according to the Thesaurus of American Society for Information Science and Technology (Asis). The analysis is based on content according to representative categories of the main themes of the set of texts on information for business. The conclusion is that from 26 journals of library and information science, only 13 published scientific articles about this theme. The main scientific production was issued in 1997. Under the topic information for business, technological information stood out with 45% of articles, and the individual authorship prevailed.
