Linguistic diversity of internet as a counter-hegemonic reaction of the trends of centralization of the empire

The Internet was born in the USA as a variation of a specific military project. In the beginning, almost all communication of network was in English because most of the people involved in the projects came from the USA, or the scientific communities in which the English language was the lingua franca. With the increasing use of Internet in various countries, English hegemony is now reviewed. In 1998, English had suffered loss of 15% of its total use, mainly due to the proliferation of the network and the production of local content presented in the national languages. The present work seeks to understand what the causes of the growing increase in local languages in Internet production are and identify ways of counter-hegemonic reaction undertaken by the use of this tool as a fertile ground for the production and dissemination of ideas, information, content, and knowledge.
