The new organization and structure of the library of the School of Public Health of the University of São Paulo , are described. The purpose of the library is to render better services to its academic, scientific, and professional users through the utilization of the new information and communication tecnologies and the up-to-date methods and processes the library has adopted. The new model was implemented in February 1997 and now, after undergoing its first evaluation is in the stage of development. Results show that change is slow due to the many barriers. Nonetheless, the direction these changes are taking prove that the management model chosen was correct. What remains to be done is to continue developing the program, making the necessary corrections and improving the quality of the services rendered, which was the prime object.
