The objective of this work is to discuss the relationship between information and archaeology referring to information storage and retrieval, especially related to actions of preservation of this particular patrimony. In addition to a legal request, the action of preservation, to be effective, has to come from the publicizing of information created in the academic field at the communities surrounding this patrimony. The daily records of the groups have to be approached as it can be seen in Piauí, in Parque da Serra da Capivara. The relations of memory and identity have to be taken into consideration from the operational point of view, based on semiotics, through the material culture, object of study of archaeology.
