The elementary and secondary school teachers' information seeking behavior on behalf of their own continuing education

The study aimed to describe those teachers' main characteristics and to identify both information channels and sources they use as well as factors that influence their behavior patterns when seeking information to continuing education. The theoretical framework used has been taken from Thomas Wilson's information seeking model. In this sense, the study focused on those teachers' cognitive needs, according to Imbernon's model. Data collection instruments used comprised the self-administrated questionnaire and semi-structured interview. The results showed that the most used are the didactic book, the para-didactic book and newspapers. The study main conclusions are that new information technologies have not yet been used as a quotidian resource to support continuing education.
