Dissemination of statistical information in Brazil: experiences and politics of the State agencies of statistics

Statistical information is essential for planning, formulating projects and public politics, consequently to the development of State. In this context it was analysed the present characteristics, progress and challenges of the state agencies which belong to the Sistema Estatístico Nacional. The aspects related to the adequacy of this study in the scope of Information Science, as well as the need to segment the search for adequacy of offer as a condition of promoting the use of Statistical Information, was broadly discussed. In order to collect information it was carried out an exploratory survey using structured and prefilled questionnaire which was sent to 27 Brazilian state agencies, out of this total 23 were answered. Also, it was applied a qualitative interview with 8 individuals agencies of the following states: Bahia, Paraná, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Rio de Janeiro. The analysis of information collected permitted the identification of relevant practices of the System concerning the development of products and services aimed at the promotion of the use of Statistical Information.
