Citizenship observatory: monitoring public policies on a global scale

Theoretical analysis and discussions about current process of globalization has stressed its economic and technological aspects and its social and cultural impacts on individual's life. However, experiences like Social Watch - a world network of citiziens groups and non profit civil organizations monitoring actions in favor of social development - point out how information on public policies can be obtained from governments or intergovernmental organizations and analysed in order to guide social actors decision making process, in the same sense transnacional corporations use to do. Social Watch encourages networking and exchange of ideas and information concerning successful strategies on poverty alleviation and gender discrimination. In order to publish its anual, local, national and regional reports, it colects, analyses and debates available data in oficial and alternative sources, building its own tables of social development indicators. All this information results from technical expertise accumulated by hundred of counter-experts at the so called third sector and it is disseminated both in paper and by Internet.
