Beginning with the analysis of the state of the Brazilian scientific literature and the lack of bibliographical databases in the science fields, this lecture examines the SciELO Project - Scientific Electronic Library Online as a tool to make the scientific literature more accessible by way of electronic means, as well as create a database that enables the evaluation of this literature in the country, and the increase of its international visibility.
