On account of the organizational changes as a result of the processes of globalization and convergence of the means of communications, the peripheral countries are facing a twofold dilemma: the economico-political imperative of being inserted into the concert of the more developed nations and the sociocultural will to preserve their historical specificities. In the peculiar case of Brazil, the article analyzes some of the possible strategies of conciliation of the globalization dynamics with the forces of local and regional establishment.
