The dune landscape as a central axis for teaching Geosciences in basic education in coastal areas

Abstract:

Studies show that even in the first years of elementary school (EFI), the contents of Geosciences are present in subjects like Science and Geography, although they are often not recognized as geoscientific, which results in decontextualized teaching. By recognizing the importance of this object, the purpose of this study was - based on the verification of the contents of Geosciences covered in EFI in a public school - to propose a structuring theme based on the geological context of the municipality. To do that, this study compiled information from studies that investigated the contents of Geosciences in Science and Geography books in the municipal school system and, as a result, it was observed that these contents represent 16.44% in this teaching cycle and are more expressive from the 3rd year on. The local landscape was found to be suitable for promoting articulation with other geoscientific subjects. In the studied context, the dune landscape is proposed as a likely articulator of Geosciences contents.
