A scoping review of health literacy and prevention strategies for children during the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract:

This study aimed to determine the health literacy of children aged 6 to 12 regarding preventive measures in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. A scoping review was conducted by searching the Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, Lilacs, and SciELO databases. Gray literature databases and searches for bibliography in relevant articles were also carried out. The findings indicate that the children understood the pandemic context, internalized preventive recommendations, and were concerned about their community. We conclude that children can understand the information recommended by health authorities; however, educational campaigns and strategies must be implemented with a focus on both children and adults.
