Adapting and validating a scale of attitudes towards reading (SATR)

Abstract

This study aimed to adapt and validate a Scale of Attitudes Towards Reading (SATR). We worked with a sample of 806 subjects and the statistical method of factor analysis, with the twenty items of the scale being considered variables. The results showed that the scale has a high reliability coefficient, indicating almost perfect internal consistency. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin measure of sampling adequacy was highly satisfactory. The Bartlet sphericity test demonstrated that the factor analysis was appropriate. The scale presented two-factor dimensions that accounted for 46.1% of the total variance in the set of manifest variables. The results of the analyses attest to the validity and reliability of this tool for measuring attitudes toward reading.
