Subnational Amazonian governments: new liaison patterns at the international contemporary fortuity

Unlike research on the paradiplomacy of the southern states of Brazil, which has already produced significant literature, only a limited number of texts deal with the greater role of subnational entities in the Amazon region. This article introduces this discussion following two main axes: greater integration of state and local governments in international affairs during the deepening of globalization; and the relationship of these new agents with the foreign ministry and the Presidency. Thus, it intends to contribute to expanding the debate on this issue among international relations researchers, and presents an overview of recent paradiplomacy initiatives in the Amazon border states, more specifically Acre, Amazonas, Amapá, Pará, Roraima and Rondônia.
