Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (ais): clinical and radiographic profile of waiting list for surgical treatment in tertiary hospital high complexity of Brazilian Public Heatlth System

OBJECTIVE: To describe through descriptive cross-sectional study, the clinical and radiographic parameters of patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) that are on the waiting list for elective surgery in a tertiary university hospital of high complexity of the SUS. METHODS: To define the clinical and radiographic profile, the following data were collected: menarche, sex, age, Risser sign, Cobb value, Nash-Moe, classification of King et al. and Lenke et al., at the time of indication for surgical treatment, and waiting time for surgery. RESULTS: Of the 51 patients, 42 were females and 9 males, mean age was 15.53 years (10-46 years). All patients were aged between 10 and 17 years at diagnosis. The average wait was 25.41 months (ranging from 2 to 180 months). The average age at menarche was 12.13 years (11-14 years), 10 patients had no menarche, and 23 skeletally immature patients (Risser zero to three). The average primary curve was 60.4 degrees (ranging from 40 to 120 degrees). The most frequent curve types were type King III (19 patients) and Lenke 1BN (11 patients). CONCLUSION: Because of the morbidity defined in the literature in patients with untreated AIS and the sample size, actions shall be taken in terms of public policy for the treatment of these patients in our country.
