This paper deals with framework underlying the current national directions for Brasilian secondary school, with special emphasis to its harmony with global trends and its bonds to international agencies advices concerning educational reforms in the emergent contries. On the other hand, it discusses vicissitudes and peculiarities of its formulating process; it also points out controversial aspects that should deserve more careful study, therefore it puts forward a farreaching discussion on the subject.
