Between Hurries and Pleasures: (Hetero)Sexual Initiation Experiences of Women in Córdoba in The Sixties and Seventies (Argentina)

Abstract

The article analyses sex-affective and (hetero)erotic processes, specifically (hetero)sexual initiation experiences, based on a socio-anthropological study carried out with a group of about twenty women who were young and single between 1960 and 1970 in the province of Córdoba (Argentina). This work seeks to demonstrate the coexistence of two diverse (hetero)sexual scripts –overlapped and opposed– in a period of cultural transition and transformation of sexual morality, the regulatory ideals of femininity and masculinity, and youthful subjectivities. In the framework of the first type of script, women initiated sexual intercourse without an acquired sexual development and established a co-occurrence between (hetero)sexual initiation and civil and religious marriage with men who exceeded them in sexual experience and age. The second type of script involved gradual initiation experiences, in the framework of a slow process of relational erotic experimentation with grater age proximity and temporal distance in relation to marriage recognition.
