Open-access Feminist Epistemology and Philosophy of Science: An Interview with Helen Longino

Abstract

This interview discusses the trajectory of Helen E. Longino, Professor at Stanford University. In the interview, Longino reflects on her path, as well as the challenges she had to face, to push the boundaries of the philosophy of science in developing her pioneering work on feminism, epistemology, gender, and science that has been so influential in shaping our views of the philosophy of science. Longino graduated from Johns Hopkins with a PhD within the tradition of analytic philosophy in 1973. Therefore, her rigorous critique of the received view of theories in the philosophy of science developed around the same time of the convergence of Science Studies, Feminism and Women Studies in the 1980s.
