Induced Abortion and its Stigmas: A Foucauldian Problematization in Nursing

Abstract

This is a qualitative study inspired by Foucault in a post-structuralist line that sought to identify discourses that challenge the motivations and confrontations of women who conduct abortions. A Facebook chat was used for narrative interviews. The social construction of the role of women in society is one of the aspects of greatest impact in relation to abortion and rights over their own bodies. Historical and cultural delimitations, rooted in patriarchal discourses, are responsible for establishing an hierarchy of genders directly reflected in stereotypes that subjectify women who have abortions.
