The agronomic perfomance of sugarcane varieties in Santa Maria - RS and the effect of annual harvesting on production of industrialized culms and others agronomic characteristics were tested in 10 varieties. Five harvests with intervals of 12 months apart after plantation in October, 1983 were yielded. The harvest of plant-cane showed the higher productivity decreasing gradually in the following harvestings. Four harvest were possible to realize due to drastic reduction verified at the fifth harvest. All varieties tested, exception of RB 72-5147 can be recommended to region farmers because presented high production of industrialized culms and brix (%) juice.
