LEUCOCYTES, FIBRINOGEN AND PLATELETS CIRCADIAN VARIATION IN DOGS TREATED WITH AESCIN

Twenty mongrel male dogs were used to anlyse the circadian variations of leucocyte, fibrinogen and platelet values. They were divided into two groups of ten animals. The first group was treated with 1.3mg/kg of Aescin every 12 hours while the second group was left without treatment. Blood samples were collected in all animals at 0 (zero), 4am, 8am, 12am 4pm, 8pm and 12pm hours of the day to determine leucocyte and platelet count and to evaluate fibrinogen. Aescin produced: eosinopenia at 4am, 8am, 12am and 4pm hours; neutrophilia at 8am, 12am, 8pm, and 12pm hours; monocytopenia at 12pm hour and lymphopenia at 8am, 4am, 8pm an 12pm hours. There was an increase in fibrinogen level at 8pm and 12pm and a decrease in the platelet number at 0 (zero), 8am, 12am, 4pm and 8pm hours. Aescin determines unstable circadian variations in the number of leucocytes, platelets and in the amount of fibrinogen in health dogs.
