One of the most frequently injured tendons in dogs is the common calcanean tendon. Regardless of the cause, the tendon injury if not treated, may result in permanent deformity. Treatment for ruptures with a significant defect poses a surgical dilemma. The healing process of an injured tendon request a surgical procedure with atraumatic handling of tissues to minimize complications as exuberant scar, adhesions with peritendinous structure or non union. This review approach the healing process and grafting to bridge gaps in the injured Achilles tendon of dogs.
