INFLUENCE OF SEEDING DATES IN YIELD AND PHYSIOLOGIC QUALITY OF CUCUMBER SEEDS

SUMMARY Cucumber, cv. Meio Comprido Fortuna, was seeded in Santa Maria, RS, in October 06, December 01 and January 04, in 1987/88, and in October 17, November 14 and December 12, in 1988/89, in order to determine seed yield, germination and vigor. It was utilized the randomized block experimental design, with four replications and 20 plants per plot (5m²). Dates of anthesis of the first pistillate flowers and maturation of the first fruits were registered. The number of fruits, seed yield, germination and vigor were determined after harvest. The results showed the highest values of seed yield were obtained when seeding was done in October while germination and vigor were higher when seed extraction was done after the complete maturation of fruits, independently of the seeding date.
