CHARACTERISTICS OF PAPAYA FORMOSA COMMERCIALIZED IN PORTO ALEGRE FROM OCTOBER/1991 TO JUNE/1992

This research aimed to evaluate the mains physical and chemical characteristics of papaya Formosa commercialized in Porto Alegre-RS from October, 1991 to June, 1992. The papayas analized showed great fruit variability of types and skin colors but the orange pulp was predominam. The highest fruifs weight was observed in October, December and April. The placenta plus seed's weight was greater in January. The percentage of pulp plus skin was greater in October, March and May. The highest fruit's diameter and firmness were obtained in December and November, respectively. The highest total soluble solids was observed in fruits sampled in March, April, May and June. the lowest acidity was obtained in April and the highest pH was observed in October. Fruit's lenght and pulp's thickness of papaya were similar during the studied period.
