Group a rota virus in calves in Minas Gerais State, Brazil

The frequency of group A rotaviruses was evaluated in 194 calves, 2- to 60-days old, from 33 farms in Pará de Minas, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. One hundred and ninety four fecal specimens were tested in a direct monoclonal ELISA and 33 (17%) were positive to group A rotavirus. Diarrhea was present in 60,6% of rotavirus-infected calves at the time of feces collection. Group A rotaviruses were detected in 19 (5.,6%) of the studied farms. Among all calves tested only seven were infected simultaneously by group A rotavirus and Cryptosporidium spp.
