COLONNA'S CAPSULAR ARTHROPLASTY MODIFIED TO DOGS: ADAPTATION TO THE TREATMENT OF DYSPLASIA AND LUXATION OF THE HIP

SUMMARY The Colonna's arthroplasty standardized for hip joint of dogs by WHEELER et al (1991) was adapted to the treatment of ten dogs. Five of them had hip dysplasia, four had hip luxation and one had hip dysplasia and luxation. The dogs were evaluated clinically and radiologically before and after surgical procedures. One dog with hip dysplasia were euthanasied and submitted to studies of gross and microscopic pathology. The capsular arthroplasty relieve the ill and improve functional recovery. Results were excellent in 50% of the dogs and good in the remaining cases.
