The present study aimed at understanding the work of the Community Health Agent (CHA) in the field of Oral Health in Brazilian Family Health Units (FHU) in 2005. This study represents a qualitative approach to the meanings and feelings that underlie the know-how in Oral Health of the CHA, showing his experience in this process. The sample consisted of nine CHAs from two Family Health Units. Data were collected in interviews with four guiding questions. The statements were analyzed using discourse analysis. It was observed that the CHAs recognize the importance and demand for more qualification and re-qualification opportunities enabling them to overcome the feeling of limitation expressed in their discourse.
